D75-23-225: New Teacher Institute: The Science of Reading
Literacy 2023/2024

Description: New Teachers Only: This three-day packaged, professional learning series for new teachers will address the five critical components of reading foundational skills while supporting teachers with strategies to foster a literacy-rich classroom environment and deliver high-quality instruction. We will make connections between theory and practice with a focus on explicit and systematic instruction by examining how core curricula utilized in District 75 align with the Science of Reading across tiers of instruction.

Participants will have an opportunity to view examples and demonstrations of lessons. Educators will learn strategies to assist students in the application of letter-sound correspondences to read words both in isolation and connected text. This series aims to support participants in utilizing the core reading curricula and leveraging research-based methods to scaffold instructional opportunities that promote access for all learners.

This professional learning series includes follow up coaching support for participants.
