D75-20-4161: Pivotal Response Therapy - Incorporating Motivation In Academic Tasks and Speech Language Certification.
Autism 2020/2021

Description: Many children with ASD show little interest in academic tasks and often engage in disruptive behavior during school assignments. Motivational components of PRT can be successfully incorporated into academic activities in both the classroom and home with homework. By using PRT to increase motivation to engage in academic tasks, children with ASD exhibit less disruptive behavior, increased learning, and appear much happier. In addition, details regarding the American Speech and Hearing Assocation Certification (ASHA )in Autism will be presented. Brittany Koegel received her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Special Education, Disabilities, and Risk Studies (SPEDR) from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She currently works at Stanford University doing research in the area of Pivotal Response Treatment. Her interests include socialization skills for young adults with ASD/Asperger’s syndrome, academic motivation for children with autism, and communication for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. She specializes in training teachers, parents, speech therapists and other professionals in Pivotal Response Treatment, and has conducted training in over ten countries including Italy, China, Japan, Spain and the United States/Canada.
