D75-20-4160: Pivotal Response Therapy- Implementation of PRT: Core Components

Description: This presentation will research-supported strategies that have been shown to significantly increase child engagement in learning opportunities, thus increasing the speed of new skill acquisition.  The presenter will cover the concepts of child choice, task variation, interspersal of maintenance and acquisition tasks, natural reinforcers, and reinforcing attempts.  Numerous video clips will be used to highlight accurate demonstration of these PRT motivational components. Brittany Koegel received her Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Special Education, Disabilities, and Risk Studies (SPEDR) from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She currently works at Stanford University doing research in the area of Pivotal Response Treatment. Her interests include socialization skills for young adults with ASD/Asperger’s syndrome, academic motivation for children with autism, and communication for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. She specializes in training teachers, parents, speech therapists and other professionals in Pivotal Response Treatment, and has conducted training in over ten countries including Italy, China, Japan, Spain and the United States/Canada.
