Description: This one-day professional learning session will address the Science of Reading as it relates to reading comprehension. Participants will learn the importance of Fluency and the connection to Comprehension. This course will explore the two points of reading: surface level reading (code based) and deep level reading (meaning based). Educators will gain knowledge in comprehension approaches that build critical and interpretation skills. These approaches aim to assist students in articulating their ideas, explore questions, and explain their thinking. Educators will learn various strategies to develop students’ reading comprehension and content knowledge in order to become independent, strategic, and metacognitive readers who are able to develop, control, and use a variety of comprehension strategies to ensure that they understand what they read.
