D75-24-221: Identity through Art: D75 Arts and MoMA Curricular Resource
Arts 2024/2025

Description: Identity through Art is a curricular resource for District 75 Art Teachers. D75 Arts has worked with MoMA’s Access Team to develop a curricular guide for District 75 art teachers that connects identity-based learning with the arts. The curricular resources in this guide have been piloted in classrooms, PD cycles, and was reviewed by an Arts Advisory of D75 Arts Teachers.
In this day-long professional development program, we will review the curriculum, and deeply engage with visual literacy, questioning strategies, communication and discussion techniques, writing, and learning adaptations. This curricular guide features eight units that can be adapted to the classroom to connect the elements of identity-based learning in CR-SE with the goals and benchmarks of the visual arts blueprint. The program is designed to support teachers in District 75, featuring open-ended art projects that are adaptable for your classroom, connecting with art through identity-based learning strategies, and ideas for increasing visual literacy and communication through observation and class discussion. This guide highlights works in MoMA’s collection by modern and contemporary artists who reflect the diversity of New York City students and introduces them to today’s expanded canon of art history. This resource also includes an accommodations guide designed by D75 Arts to support conversations, discussions, adaptations and modifications in the visual arts classroom.
