Description: This one-day professional session is designed to assist teachers in boosting reading foundational skills that support their existing reading curriculum. This offering will provide concrete examples and activities that reinforce important reading concepts that assist students in understanding the English code. The activities presented will provide opportunities for children to explore phonemic awareness, how sounds and letters work together, and how words work to read and spell efficiently and effectively. This professional learning session combines practices outlined in Teaching Advanced Literacy Skills using the tenets of Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education.
