D75-25-233: Explore the cross- curricular concepts of STEAM with the Center for Architecture
Arts, Instructional Technology, Math 2025/2026

Description: In this two-part professional development series presented by the Center for Architecture (CFA), educators will explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) as an integrated approach to real-world problem-solving through design. Open to both arts and classroom teachers, the series equips participants with practical tools and creative strategies to apply design thinking and critical thinking skills in addressing a need within their school or community. On Day 1, teachers will explore the principles of STEAM as a cross-curricular approach to learning, with a focus on architecture and design thinking, and how these strategies and programs promote critical thinking and real-world application. On Day 2, participants will bring a unit topic they’d like to “STEAM-ify.” During this hands-on, make-and-take session, educators will create project ideas that amplify learning through cross-curricular connections, leaving with tangible plans to implement in their classrooms. Guided by CFA design educators, participants will develop a project framework that incorporates STEAM principles and design-based learning. Each session will feature interactive design challenges that model CFA’s project-based approach. All instructional materials and resources will be provided, with a strong emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity to support students with disabilities and ensure equitable participation for all learners. Sessions will take place in person at the Center for Architecture in Greenwich Village.
