D75-18-263: Hands-On Fractions and Decimals
Mathematics (STEM) 2018/2019
Description: This PD will work on developing a deeper understanding of what fractions are and how to teach them. Students need to be exposed to fractions in a constructivist manner that develops through targeted leveled problems, a variety of representations, regular practice, and diverse problem situations. Understanding the math behind fractions will be taught using a variety of methods that can be brought back into the classroom, including: visuals, number lines, multiple concrete manipulatives, digital interactives for the iPad and SmartBoard, story problems, and real-world situations. All activities will be age-appropriate for students in grades 3-8 developing fraction sense.
