D75-22-4422: CRSE and the Arts: Create Community and Collaborative Murals
Arts 2022/2023

Description: *THIS PD SERIES IS FOR VISUAL ARTS TEACHERS* Join us for a yearlong program focused on bridging the CRSE framework and the arts. Collaborative art brings communities together by working over a period of time on a collective idea. In an effort to diversify the artists featured in the visual arts classroom, D75 Arts and The Museum of Modern Art are coming together to support teachers and students in the creation of collaborative murals! During this series, we will discuss four different themes that will inspire the creation of collaborative murals over the course of the year. Each theme introduces teachers and students to diverse artists in MoMA’s collection through specially-designed information packets, activity ideas and discussion prompts that can be easily adapted into a lesson plan that suits your students and your teaching schedule. This is a 4 part PD, meeting full-day and in-person at MoMA. Each individual PD will focus on a specific unit including themes, artists who inspired the project, a variety of materials exploration and mural construction. Each participant will receive art making materials for their students and is expected to document and share the culminating collaborative mural that will be displayed publicly at your school. Collaborative Mural themes were created in guidance by the blueprint and will feature painting, printmaking, sculpture and collage.
