D75-20-4107: Nuts and Bolts - Inclusive Philosophy and Least Restrictive Environment - Part 1 and Part 2
Inclusive Education 2020/2021

Description: This asynchronous professional learning opportunity is open to anyone who supports students who receive inclusive special education services in a District 1-32 School, specifically those supported by District 75. In Part 1, participants will share current beliefs about inclusive education, and then build their knowledge by reviewing various ideas and concepts related to inclusive philosophy. Attendees will then have the opportunity to reflect on the connection between inclusive philosophy and moving students toward Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). In Part 2, participants will learn what inclusion is and isn’t, the laws that dictate Least Restrictive Environment, information about inclusive special education services in the NYCDOE and the continuum of special education services. This course is relevant during and after the time period of blended and remote learning; educators may need to generalize information to make specific connections to this time period. Each part should take approximately 90 minutes to complete.
