D75-18-185: CCLS Foundational Fridays-Foundational Reading Skills
Literacy 2018/2019
Description: This one day course will support teachers in building a solid understanding of reading foundational skills as outlined in the Common Core Foundational Skills for Grades K-5. Participants will review the components of developmental reading instruction ranging from pre-reading behaviors and phonological awareness to phonics and fluency. Participants will learn to increase student engagement with print in the classroom using multisensory techniques and a variety of reinforcement activities. They will identify opportunities throughout the day to employ a variety of practical, explicit word solving strategies in order for students to build a strong foundation to become independent, life long readers.
