Description: The Foundations of Behavior Support and De-Escalation professional learning experience is two (2) 90-minute virtual sessions, designed to provide overviews of understanding behaviors and de-escalation strategies: The following topics, among others, will be explored: PART 1: Review Terminology • Who Are Our Youngsters • Descriptions of Behaviors • Understanding Behaviors and Functions of Behavior • Behavior and Communication • Understanding how stress affects Behavior • Behavior Escalation Cycle and the adult’s role. PART 2: Participants will explore basic de-escalation strategies that staff can implement immediately with students. They include: • Strategies for Supporting Students • Teaching and Supporting Pro-Social Behavior Skills • Listening Skills • Making a connection to Social-Emotional Learning • Calming Strategies and Self-care.
