Description: The Behavior Basics and De-Escalation PL is designed to provide overviews of understanding behaviors and de-escalation skills.
The following will be explored: PART 1: • an understanding behaviors and functions of behavior • behavior and communication • ; prevention strategies • behavior escalation cycle • strategies for supporting students.
PART 2: To provide an overview of basic de-escalation skills that staff can implement right away.
These skills include:
• an understanding of the effects of stress on behavior
• self-care and calming strategies
• practicing listening skills
• teaching pro-social behavioral skills
• making a connection to social-emotional learning
